Understand the business model before moving forward or explaining it to a candidate.
Is this a W-2 remote recruiting job?
No. It is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. You are not a VMS employee. There is no salary, hourly wage, employee benefits package or guaranteed income. Compensation depends on eligible recruiting milestones and qualifying business production.
Does VMS charge me to apply, join, train or remain active?
No. VMS charges no application, onboarding, training, software, starter-kit, membership or monthly participation fees and requires no investment or purchase to participate. Independent contractors pay ordinary personal operating expenses, such as their own phone and internet.
Do I have to recruit full time or meet a quota?
No. You can work full time or part time, arrange your own schedule and choose your activity level. There is no general production quota or minimum number of hours required simply to remain a VMS independent contractor. Specific commissions, incentives and bonuses have eligibility rules.
Will VMS provide candidates, or do I find them myself?
VMS provides candidates and recruiter tools to help you get started. You can also develop your own recruiting pipeline through appropriate outreach, referrals, networking and other approved sources. A provided candidate is not a guaranteed joiner or producer.
Am I expected to make merchant sales or manage merchant accounts?
No. The recruiter role focuses on identifying, communicating with and guiding potential independent contractors. The sales and lead generation contractors you recruit pursue qualified merchant opportunities within their respective roles. Your compensation may reflect their eligible merchant production without requiring you to deliver merchant sales presentations or manage their accounts.
What exactly triggers the $50 candidate commission?
Under the existing recruiter compensation description, the recruit must be fully onboarded and activated, and their first qualified merchant lead is required. Merely signing an agreement or completing a profile does not by itself establish eligibility.
How do the $10 lead and $150 merchant commissions work?
Under the current recruiter plan, eligible qualified merchant leads generated by recruited sales agents and lead generators can earn a $10 one-time recruiter commission. Eligible merchant sales made by your recruited sales agents can earn a $150 one-time recruiter commission, subject to account approval, activation and the applicable terms. These are separate compensation milestones.
How does the 10% monthly residual work?
The current recruiter compensation description provides for a 10% share of eligible ongoing merchant profits attributable to qualifying recruited-team business, subject to the applicable agreement. Payments depend on merchant activity and actual qualifying profits. An active merchant can produce a recurring share over time, while amounts may fluctuate or end if eligibility or merchant activity ends.
Must I keep recruiting to receive residual income I've already earned?
There is no ongoing new-production quota simply to maintain eligible residual rights already built through qualifying merchant relationships. Continued payments and any termination provisions are governed by the recruiter agreement, applicable compensation schedule and ongoing qualifying merchant activity.
When do I receive commissions, residuals and bonuses?
Eligible upfront commissions are generally paid on Friday following the applicable commission week, which runs Thursday 12:01 PM Pacific through the following Thursday at noon Pacific. Eligible accrued monthly residuals and qualifying bonuses are generally paid on or about the 28th. Specific programs can have different payout terms.
Is this multilevel marketing (MLM)?
No. VMS does not require product purchases, inventory, autoship, buy-ins or paid memberships to participate. Recruiter income is based on the eligible real merchant activity of a qualifying recruited team and other defined program milestones, rather than a requirement to buy into a recruiting network.
What if I have no recruiting or merchant-services experience?
Prior experience can help, but the role includes recruiter training, scripts, CRM resources, orientation materials, ongoing education and support. Clear communication, professionalism, organization, consistent follow-up and willingness to learn are especially relevant.
Do I need to explain Square and the new advocacy program to every candidate?
You should understand the high-level range of VMS solutions so you can explain why the company offers multiple paths to help merchants. You do not need to master every product. VMS training and specialized personnel help team members learn the solutions appropriate to their roles.
What happens after I finish orientation?
If the opportunity fits, complete the core recruiter training, review and submit the recruiter independent contractor agreement, follow the onboarding instructions and use the recruiter training resources and support contacts to get ready for candidate outreach. Completing orientation alone does not create an obligation to join.
